How to Work an RFI

You’ve done your homework; you have your data organized and current. Now comes the knock at the door – a company is asking for detailed information on your community and it wants it now. How do you respond? The following documents will guide you through an RFI (Request for Information) and explain how to coordinate and partner with the GOED in that process.

Available Buildings & Sites

Year after year, studies show that one of the main criteria new and expanding industries seek is an available building or site. Don't let these prospects slip away because they don't know about that perfect facility in your town.

If you would like to list a property on the GOED website, please work with Jenny Ondell, jennifer.ondell@state.sd.us, 800-872-6190.

To speed the process of listing your available properties, please review and complete the following forms:

Property Guidelines:

Audience: Our audience includes company leaders and site selection consultants, looking to expand or relocate business operations. Industry focuses include manufacturing, back-office/financial activities, IT and the biosciences.

Size: Buildings should be at least 10,000-sq.ft. in South Dakota communities with populations over 10,000. In communities with populations under 10,000, buildings should be at least 2,500-sq.ft. This size limit is flexible but we do find our typical audience is seeking properties over the 2,500-sq.ft. minimum.

Photos: Up to 4 photos can be listed per property. Please be sure your photos are of a good quality and present the property well. Avoid things that detract from the marketability of the property (heavy snow, weeds, debris, broken windows). Also consider including floor/site plans or plat maps.

Community Profile

Having accurate, current information on your community accessible online is absolutely essential in today’s economic development world. Many times business prospects don’t call until they’ve already gone through rounds of elimination based solely on information acquired on the Internet.

The GOED provides a wealth of information in its community profiles on the recruitment site www.sdreadytowork.com but there is also information that only you can supply.

Please make time to review your information and contact Sherri Dittman at sherri.dittman@state.sd.us with any additions or corrections to your profile.
